Ethnicity

State/ethnicity dynamics are a key factor to major Southeast Asian historical and contemporary social features. Migrations, entrepreneurship and ethnicity are strictly linked today as they were in the past. What comes into focus is the nexus between the above-mentioned processes and neo-liberal strategies, including the patrimonialisation of ethnic enclaves.

The project compares how ethnicity plays a role in marginal situations within different states and different social classes, intersecting with gender, capital as well as dynamics of linguistic hegemony and language preservation.
